Wireless Sensor Technologies, LLC (WST) provides wireless sensors and systems for operation in harsh and extreme environments typically characterizing temperature, pressure, vibration, strain and gas concentration. Target applications are found in aerospace, power and energy, and industrial plants and installations with the gas turbine engine being our critical application focus. WST was formed in 2007 to address the critical need for reliable sensors for gas turbine engines used for developmental testing, Propulsion Health Monitoring (PHM), and Condition-based Maintenance (CBM) applications. WST’S sensor and system development work has been sponsored by the U.S Air Force, Navy and the Department of Energy.
WST has the expertise and equipment to provide core research and product and system development in the areas of RF systems, signal processing, and high temperature materials and devices. Our West Coast laboratory houses equipment for the development of wireless networks, antennas, and RF subsystems over a frequency range of 1 MHz to 22 GHz.
Our materials group has full access to facilities to fabricate and characterize thin film sensors on a variety of substrates including non-planar substrates such as turbine and compressor blades. This includes a complete lithography facility with spin coating, baking, exposure and development stations; five MRC sputter-deposition systems, an ozone cleaning system and an oxygen:argon plasma system, and a wire bonding station that includes both a parallel gap welding capability as well as a laser welding capability.
Our analysis capability includes atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.
